At a Court held for the County of Somerset in the Province of Maryland by his Maties Justices of ye Peace thereunto appointed the 14th day of Janry ano Domini 1695/6 - - - - ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Comrs prsent// Mr ffra Jenckins, mr Tho. Dixon, mr Geo. Layfield, mr Thomas Newbold, mr Sam Hopkins, mr Tho. Jones, mr Jno King & mr Arnold Elzey. Ordered by this Court that the sheriff of this County forthwith Sum a Grand Jury to attend on sd Court on behalf of ye King &ca. A List or Pannel whereof are returnd as followeth (viz) John Lane Alex Kyle, Edward Stockdell, Robt.Smith, Robt. Catlin, Sam Handy, Jno Roach Junr John Townsend Senir, Daniel Donnahoe Robt. Polk, Abram Knott, James Given, Robt Givin, Edwd Harper Thomas Quillain & ffra Martin 16 = who being duely impannelled Sumoned & Sworn upon the holy Evangel & having had their Charge read are Sent forth to enquire &ca. — This day Thomas Hardeman produced this following Coppy (viz Somerset County Ss. Att a County Court held the 11th day of Janry Ano Dom 1686/7 Comrs prsent Coll Wm Coulbourne Capt. Hen Smith, mr Wm Brereton, mr Wm Jones viz ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Thomas Hardeman Servt to Arnold Elzey was brought before this Court the Same day & year as above judgmt is between twelve & thirteen years of age. Vera Copia pr J West Clr The prmises afd being by the Worll Court considered it is this Court judgmt that the fd Thomas has One year longer to Serve his sd Master according to the tenour & date of the foresd Coppy. – – – – – – ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ This following Petion the day & year abovesd was to the Worll Court prferred viz – To [ ]His Maties Worll Justices of ye Peace for Somerset County – The Petion of Mary Megraugh Widdo most humbly sheweth That ye Petioners husband in ano 1689/90 by Recognizance in this Worll Court became bound for one John Careys good behaviour & abearance to all his — Maties Liege People of this Province in the Sum of Tenn pounds Sterl money to be levyed on his goods &ca. Now So it is may it please yr worpps that yr Petioners husband being deceased hath left a poor Widdo with Seven small Children in a Deplorable & helpless Condicon being scare able to Support without the Charity of her Neighbours & friends she therefore most humbly prayes that this Worll Court will please to Signifie the foresd premises So his Excelly the Governr of this Province that the fd Bond may not proceed agt the poor Widdow & fatherless & as in duty bound shall ever pray &ca. The fd Petion being read, the prmisses Considered it is the Worll Court judgmt that the foresd Widdo. is an object of Charity as is before Sett forth, and therefore doe Order the Same be made known to his Excelled. as prayed and that ye Same be Signed by ye Clk &ca.
