Fluellin. &ca} for the body of this County at a Court ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ held at Deviding Creek the Second Tuesday in November last past on their Oaths doe prsent Samuel ffluellin, Thomas ffarnall, John James, Edward Ross, Wm Leyton, John Wilson Thomas Wilson of this County for that they have Contrary to the Laws of this Province by fencing & other means Stopt up his Maties high way or Road Contrary to the Peace &ca. Dent Clk prsentmts The Said ffluellin &ca this day appearing, as also ye Informer John Meclaster Then was read these following lines (viz) — To ye Worll Courtl Janry ye 4th day 1695/6. Whereas Complaint hath been made to ye Worpps by Jno Meclaster of the Inhabitants of Nanticoke Point Concerning their high wayes whereas the under Subscriber Can positively Say that the road and high wayes now Cleared has been the road to Nanticoke Point this twenty years or more. Testes // Robert Collier, Leonard Jones, Tho: Holbrook Lewes Beard, Peter Doughty, Jno ffurbuss, Stephen Cannon, Patrick Quatermis,(that the time I being liveing there, I find ye old Road as good as the other) – Jno Ellinsworth. Benjamine Lawrence, Eliz: Wilson, Peter Body . ___________ To the Worll Court of Somerset County . Janry 11th 1695/6 Gentlemen whereas there hath been Complaint made to me by Several of the Inhabitants of Nanticoke Poine, of an Information made to the Grand Jury by John Meclaster Concerning their high wayes at which I forth with went with a Neighbour with me & viewd these wayes whereof the Complaint is, and I can See no Cause of Complaint in them, for where the Road is now, it has been Standing this twenty years or more & I think for the whole length of the Point, five or Six horse Men may ride abrest where there was hills they are leavied & where holes they are filld up & evened, and to my Judgmt and my Neighbours there is not a better Road in our parts Gentlemen I am Informed there is Severall Neighbours now arrested by this Informant and the whole Neighbourhood that knows the Road Cannot imagine any other thing then malice or Spite, therefore I think yr Worpps will take it to Consideration that the Poore Inhabitants shall not be too much
