displayed upon such registration plate, PLATES, as provided for
under Section 36 (b) of this Article. From time to time thereafter,
the Commissioner shall evaluate the condition of registration plates
issued under this Article and shall provide for the manufacture and
issuance of new registration plates at his discretion. Such new regis-
tration plates shall be issued and subsequently validated in the
manner prescribed herein.

36.

(b)  The Department may receive applications for [renewal of
registration] annual validation tabs and grant [the] same and issue
[new registration cards and plates at any time prior to expiration
of registration, but no person shall display upon a vehicle the new
registration plates prior to April 1 for those registrations which
expire on April 30, nor prior to March 1 for those registrations
which expire on March 31,] such tabs at any time prior to the thirty-
first day of March of each succeeding year for which registration
plates are issued. But no person shall display upon a vehicle a new
registration plate or renewal validation tab prior to April first for
those registrations which expire on April thirtieth of each year for
which issued, nor prior to March first for those registrations which
expire on March thirty-first of each year for which issued.

(c)  If any registration plate OR PLATES issued by the Depart-
ment is lost or if any registration plate
OR PLATES issued by the
Department becomes mutilated or illegible, the owner of the vehicle
for which the registration was issued shall immediately place a
temporary number plate
OR PLATES on the vehicle bearing his
registration number
and WHICH shall be displayed as nearly as
possible as herein provided for the registration plate. The owner,
within forty-eight (48) hours after such loss or mutilation of his
registration plate
OR PLATES, shall give notice thereof to the
Department and apply for a substitute registration plate.
SUBSTI-
TUTE REGISTRATION PLATES. The Department shall supply
a substitute registration plate
SUBSTITUTE REGISTRATION
PLATES upon payment of the fee as hereinafter provided. Upon
receipt of the substitute registration plate
PLATES and substitute
registration certificate, the registration plate
OR PLATES, if muti-
lated or illegible and registration certificate originally issued shall
be surrendered to the Department.

(f) Fees to be charged by the Department for the replacement of
lost certificates of title, registration certificates, [and] registration
plates, and validation tabs are: certificate of title, fifty cents (50¢),
registration certificate, fifty cents (50¢), registration plates, to-
gether with appropriate registration certificate, one dollar ($1.00),
lost validation tab, one dollar
($1.00)-.
REGISTRATION CERTIFI-
CATE, FIFTY CENTS (50¢), LOST VALIDATION TAB, ONE
DOLLAR ($1.00),

[AND one dollar ($1.00) in the case of loss of one motor vehicle
registration plate and two dollars ($2.00) in case of the loss of two
motor vehicle registration plates;

Or one dollar ($1.00) in the case of a trailer, motorcycle or bicycle
with motor attachment.
