pursue, catch, kill, trap or shoot any beaver and/or otter in the State
of Maryland.
176. Fur dealer's license and report.
(c) Buying from dealers in another state.—A person who can
substantiate the fact that the furs or pelts were bought from fur
dealers licensed by the Department of Game and Inland Fish [Com-
mission] or lawfully obtained from dealers in another State and are
to be used for the purpose of dressing, altering, trimming, repairing
or manufacturing into a finished product but not for resale as furs or
pelts, or a tanner or taxidermist who has in his possession furs or
pelts legally owned by another person and which he is holding tem-
porarily solely for the purpose of processing.
(e) Who may obtain resident's license.—A resident who has re-
sided [continuously] permanently in this State for a period of not
less than six (6) months [during the preceding twelve (12) months,]
immediately preceding the time of application and who desires to
possess, buy, sell, transport, ship and store legally acquired furs at
any time during the calendar year, shall obtain a resident State fur
dealer's license from the Director upon payment of a fee of Two
Dollars ($2.00).
(g) Report.—Fur dealers shall between July 1 and July 10 of
each year submit to the Director of the Department of Game and
Inland Fish [Commission] on forms furnished by him a statement,
under oath, indicating the number or quantity and species of furs
and the county or place of origin in which furs were taken, possessed,
bought, sold, transported, shipped, stored, tanned, or used by him
during the period covered by the last previous license. Fur dealers
shall also include in such reports the name, address, and current
license number of each person from whom all furs were purchased
within or outside the State of Maryland, the date of purchase, the
quantity of each species of furs purchased, the county in which said
furs were taken if purchased in the State of Maryland. Said reports
shall cover all transactions from date of issuance of fur dealer's
license until expiration of same. Application for renewal of licenses
shall accompany all such reports.
(j) Tags for out-of-State shipments—In general.—Except as
hereinafter provided, it shall be unlawful for any person knowingly
to ship, transport, or carry by any means whatever, the furs or pelts
of any wild quadruped to a point outside this State unless each ship-
ment shall have attached on the outside a special shipping tag ob-
tained from the Director or one of of the regular [salaried game
warden] Wildlife Officers of this State.
(k) Tags for out-of-State shipments—Composition of tags; pro-
curing from [game wardens] Wildlife Officers.—Such tags shall be
supplied at a cost of five cents (5¢) each and shall be composed of
two parts; one part giving the name and address of the consignee
and the kind and number of furs or pelts contained in the package,
shall be attached to the furs or pelts if carried personally open to
view or be attached on the outside of the container in which the furs
or pelts before-mentioned are shipped or transported; the other part
of said tag containing the information specified on tag shall imme-
diately be forwarded to the Director at Annapolis.
