miles of the point of pickup and delivery shall not be subject to any
restrictions of this article pertaining to weight of vehicle, weight
of vehicle and load however determined and/or axle loads, except
only that at all times such semidump trailer shall be limited as to
gross weight by the allowable and paid registration weight, and
the combination of tractor, semidump trailer and load shall be
limited as to gross weight by the overall maximum of sixty-five
thousand (65,000) pounds established by § 315 (c) of this article,
provided further that if said combination is operated at a point
beyond the herein authorized forty (40) mile radius or is hauling
materials other than loose materials in bulk, it shall be subject to all
applicable restrictions of this article.

[(4) The Department shall pay to the county or Baltimore City
in which the owner of a Class G motor vehicle resides, the following
sums for such vehicles as per chassis weight or number of axles
as shown above:

Less than 300 .................................................................................................... $ 2.00

301 to 500 ...................................................................................................... 2.00

501 to 1,000 ................................................................................................. 8.00

Over 1,000

Single axle ................................................................................................ 20.00

Two or more axles .......................................................................... 25.00

and the sum of thirty-five ($35.00) dollars for each semidump
trailer service registration.]

[(5) If the owner of any such vehicles also resides within the
corporate limits of any municipality or special taxing area in a
county, such municipality or special taxing area shall be entitled
to receive from the county one half (˝) of the fee paid to the
county for such vehicle.]

(i) Class H, pneumatic tires.—School buses, publicly or privately
owned, under contract of the boards of education of the political
subdivisions, and/or owned or under contract by accredited schools,
shall pay a flat registration fee of [$15.00] $20.00 when operating
for the purpose of transporting pupils between home and school,
between designated points of collection and school, or to or from
any school activity. When operating for these purposes and for
these purposes alone, they shall carry the usual school bus insignia,
front and rear, and "stop" signals, front and rear. When operating
a school bus for any purposes other than those above set forth,
the owner shall take out an additional license plate for which the
charge shall be [$30.00] $45.00 $40.00 per year; except that, on one
Sunday during October in any year (with no extra charge and no ad-
ditional license plate), a school bus may be chartered by a nonprofit
agency or organization and for such day of operation the owner
of the bus shall provide to the chartering agency or organization
a certificate of insurance meeting the financial responsibility require-
ments of this article. When operating a school bus for any purpose
other than the scheduled operation of transporting pupils between
home and school or to or from any school activity, the operator of
the bus shall cover the school bus license plate as well as all markings
on the bus indicating it to be a school bus. The Department of Motor
Vehicles shall issue a distinctive plate to be used on buses operating
on a schedule for the transporting of pupils between home and school
or to and from any school activity.
