exclusive and original jurisdiction in all welfare fraud prosecutions
regardless of the dollar amount of the fraud.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 109(a) (71) of Article 26 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1966 Replacement Volume), title "Courts," subtitle
"Municipal Court of Baltimore City," be and it is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

109.

(a) (71). Welfare fraud violations under Maryland Code,
[Article 88A, Section 59, only where the amount of the assistance
unlawfully obtained is less than five hundred dollars.] Article 27,
Section 230 A.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1968.

(House Bill 832)

AN ACT to repeal Section 59 of Article 88A of the Annotated Code
of Maryland, (1964 Replacement Volume), title "State Department
of Public Welfare," subtitle "Aid to Families with Dependent
Children"; and to repeal Section 81 of Article 88A of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1964 Replacement Volume and 1967 Supple-
ment), title "State Department of Public Welfare," subtitle "Old
Age Assistance"; and to repeal Section 29 of Article 30 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1967 Replacement Volume and 1967
Supplement) title "Deaf, Mute or Blind," subtitle "Public As-
sistance to the Needy Blind"; and to add new section 230A to
Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1967 Replacement
Volume), title "Crimes and Punishments," subtitle "Crimes and
Punishments," to follow immediately after Section 230 thereof,
to be under the new subheading "Fraud-Welfare," to provide
uniformity in the prosecution of welfare fraud cases by placing
all violations of welfare fraud under one section of the Code and to
more clearly define what constitutes welfare fraud, and to revise
the penalties for violation thereof.
