CHAPTER 247
(House Bill 465)

AN ACT to transfer and codify Sections 14A-1 through 14A-15,
inclusive, of the Anne Arundel County Code (being Article 2 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Anne Arundel
County," as last amended by Chapter 183 of the Acts of 1967, to
be in their present sequence under Section 98B of Article 52 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Replacement Volume and 1967
Cumulative Supplement), and relating generally to the People's
Court of Anne Arundel County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 14A-1 through 14A-15 inclusive of the Anne Arundel
County Code (being Article 2 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland), title "Anne Arundel County," as last amended by Chap-
ter 183 of the Acts of 1967 be and they are hereby transferred and
codified to read as follows:

98B.

(1)    There is hereby created a People's Court of Anne Arundel
County. Said Court shall consist of four (4) Judges. The number of
such Judges may be increased or decreased by the General Assembly
by law, but no such decrease shall affect the term of any Judge then
in office.

(2)    (a) No person shall be qualified to stand for election or to
hold the office of Judge of the People's Court of Anne Arundel
County unless he possesses the following qualifications:

(b) (A) He is at least thirty (30) years of age and less than
seventy (70) years of age, and

(c) (B) A member of the Bar of the State of Maryland and an
active practitioner in Anne Arundel County for at least five (5) years,
and

(d) (C) A resident of Anne Arundel County continuously for at
least five (5) years immediately prior to his appointment or elec-
tion, and

(e) (D) Is distinguished for integrity, wisdom and sound legal
knowledge.

(3) The Governor shall appoint the judges of the Court from a
list of not more than six (6) qualified persons nominated by a
Committee within fifteen (15) days from the effective date of this
act, which committee shall select its own Chairman, and which com-
mittee shall consist of the following persons:

(a)    The State Senators from Senatorial District Nos. 6A, 6B
and 6C of Anne Arundel County.

(b)    Chairman of the Anne Arundel County Delegation in the
House of Delegates.

(c)    The duly elected vice-president of the Fifth Judicial Circuit
of the Maryland State Bar Association.
