Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 20 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Carroll County
(1965 Edition, being Article 7 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland), title "Carroll County," subtitle "County Commissioners,"
as last amended by Chapter 383 of the Acts of 1967, be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
20.
The County Commissioners of Carroll County shall annually levy
and collect from the assessable property in Carroll County, as other
county taxes are levied and collected the sum of 3¢ UP TO 6¢ per
$100.00 of the value of such property, which sum of money the [said]
County Commissioners shall distribute and pay to the [several] volun-
teer fire companies and to the Carroll County Central Alarm Associa-
tion in [said] the county for the support, maintenance, equipment (in-
cluding ambulances) and operation of [said] the volunteer fire com-
panies and the Carroll County Central Alarm Association; and said
sum of money shall be proportioned and distributed among [said]
the volunteer fire companies and the Carroll County Central Alarm
Association upon the recommendation of the executive committee
of the Carroll County Volunteer Firemen's Association. The County
Commissioners of Carroll are hereby authorized and em-
powered, [in their discretion and] upon the submission to them of a
detailed financial report, together with a detailed report of all assets
and liabilities, by each volunteer fire company and the Carroll County
Central Alarm Association in said county, to increase the annual
levy [up] to 6¢ per $100.00 of the value of the assessable property in
Carroll County, to collect such sum and to distribute it to the several
volunteer fire companies and to the Carroll County Central Alarm
Association in [said] the county as provided in this section.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1968.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 37 (m) of
Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Replacement
Volume and 1967 Supplement), title "Sheriffs", subtitle "Com-
pensation and Duties", to provide for the salary and expense
allowance of the deputy sheriffs of Howard County.
