shall be deemed to have been abandoned and the other provisions
of Section 9 of Chapter 743 of the Acts of 1965 shall be fully effec-
tive as to these projects.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.

CHAPTER 371
(House Bill 1087)
AN ACT to add new Section 61A to Article 27 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Crimes and Punishments,"
subtitle "Cruelty to Animals," to follow immediately after Section
61 thereof, requiring any person who strikes a domestic animal
with a motor vehicle to notify the police, and requiring the police
to notify the local humane organization, making violations mis-
demeanors and providing a penalty therefor.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 61A be and it is hereby added to Article 27 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Crimes and
Punishments," subtitle "Cruelty to Animals," to follow immediately
after Section 61 thereof, and to read as follows:
61A.
Any person who knowingly strikes and injures a domestic
animal with a motor vehicle shall immediately stop and notify the
appropriate State, county or municipal police of such striking and
injury. The police, in turn, shall notify the local organization or
governmental unit or agency designated by the appropriate local
government to bring such injured animals under proper medical
care. Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be
deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof, shall
be fined not less MORE than fifty dollars ($50.00).
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.
