things and upon conviction be fined not more than five hundred
dollars or imprisoned in the house of correction or jail for not more
than one year, or both fined and imprisoned. Where the value of
the goods or things so converted is less than one hundred dollars, he
shall be prosecuted in the manner prescribed in Section 341 of this
article. In Baltimore City, where the value of the goods converted
does not exceed five hundred dollars ($500.00), the Municipal Court
of Baltimore City shall have jurisdiction to try persons charged with
violating this section, provided that persons so convicted in the
Municipal Court shall not be sentenced to the penitentiary by that
Court.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.

CHAPTER 61
(House Bill 318)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 340 of
Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition),
title "Crimes and Punishments," subtitle "Crimes and Punish-
ments," subheading "Larceny," amending the law relating to
larceny to give the Municipal Court of Baltimore City jurisdiction
where the amount in question does not exceed $500.00.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 340 of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Crimes and Punishments," subtitle "Crimes
and Punishments," subheading "Larceny," be and it is hereby re-
pealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

340.

Every person convicted of the crime of larceny to the value of one
hundred dollars or upwards, or as accessory thereto before the fact
shall be deemed guilty of a felony, and shall restore the money,
goods or things, taken to the owner, or shall pay him the full value
thereof, and shall be fined not more than one thousand dollars or be
imprisoned in the penitentiary for not more than fifteen years, or in
the house of correction or jail for not more than ten years, or be
both fined and imprisoned in the discretion of the court. In Balti-
more City, where the amount of money or the value of the thing
taken does not exceed five hundred dollars ($500.00), the Municipal
Court of Baltimore City shall have jurisdiction to try persons
charged with violating this section, provided that persons so con-
victed in the Municipal Court shall not be sentenced to the pen-
itentiary by that Court.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.
