CHAPTER 62
(House Bill 94)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 209 of
Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement
Volume), title "Public Education," subtitle "Chapter 18. High
Schools," amending the law to provide for the issuance of one
(1) type of diploma or certificate in county high schools.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 209 of Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1965 Replacement Volume), title "Public Education," subtitle
"Chapter 18. High Schools," be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

209.

[All certificates or diplomas issued to students having completed
a course of study in a county high school shall show the group to
which said high school belongs, the course taken by the students,
and the number of years of instruction given.] There shall be one (1)
type of diploma or certificate issued to all students graduating from,
county high schools regardless of the high school attended or the
course taken. The diploma or certificate shall merely state that the
student has completed his high school education, but shall not state
the group to which the school belongs or the course taken by the
students.
Any State-supported or State-aided institution of higher
learning shall accept as a student any graduate of an approved public
high school who is certified by the high school principal as having
the qualifications to pursue a course of study in the particular in-
stitution of higher learning, said qualifications being based upon
standards determined, for graduates of the county high schools, by
the State Board of Education and for the graduates of the Baltimore
City high schools, by the Board of School Commissioners of Balti-
more City; or who shows, by passing examinations set by the par-
ticular State-aided or State-supported institution of higher learn-
ing, that he or she has the qualifications to pursue a course of study
in that institution.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967 1968.

CHAPTER 63
(House Bill 136)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 162, 163
and 164 of Article 41 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965
Replacement Volume and 1966 Supplement), title "Governor—
Executive and Administrative Departments," subtitle "The Execu-
tive Department," subheading "State Library," to delete from the
duties of the Director of the State Library the responsibility for
