Sec. 2. And be it further enacted. That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.

CHAPTER 192
(House Bill 20)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Article 75½ of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement Volume), title
"Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors," completely revising
certain laws of this State relating to the qualifications and licens-
ing of professional engineers and land surveyors, providing for the
members, powers, duties and functions of the State Board of Reg-
istration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, and
relating generally to the occupations of professional engineers and
land surveyors in this State.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Article 75½ of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors,"
be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

1.

It is hereby declared that, in order to safeguard life, health and
property, and to promote the public welfare, any person practicing or
offering to practice engineering or, land surveying, OR PROPERTY
LINE SURVEYING, shall hereafter be required to submit evidence
that he is qualified so to practice and shall be registered as herein-
after provided; and it shall be unlawful for any person to practice or
to offer to practice in this State, engineering or land surveying, as
defined in the provisions of this article, or to use in connection with
his name or otherwise assume, use, or advertise any title or descrip-
tion tending to convey the impression that he is [a professional engi-
neer] an engineer or a land surveyor, unless such person has been
duly registered under the provisions of this article. The right to en-
gage in the practice of engineering or land surveying shall be deemed
a personal right, based on the qualifications of the individual as
evidenced by his certificate of registration, which shall not be
transferable.

2.

[(a) the term "engineer" as used in this article shall mean a pro-
fessional engineer as hereinafter defined.]

(a) The term "engineer," within the meaning and intent of this
article, shall mean a person who, by reason of his special knowledge
and use of the mathematical, physical and engineering sciences and
the principles and methods of engineering analysis and design, ac-
quired by engineering education and engineering experience, is quali-
fied to practice engineering.
