[(b) The term "professional engineer" within the meaning and
intent of this article shall mean a person who, by reason of his special
knowledge of the mathematical and physical sciences and the prin-
ciples and methods of engineering analysis and design, acquired by
professional education and practical experience, is qualified to prac-
tice engineering as hereinafter defined as attested by his legal reg-
istration as a professional engineer.]

(b)    The term "professional engineer," within the meaning and
intent of this article, shall mean a person who has been duly registered
and licensed under the requirements of this article.

[(c) The term "engineer-in-training" as used in this article shall
mean a candidate for registration as a professional engineer who is a
graduate in an approved engineering curriculum of four years or
more from a school or college approved by the Board as of satisfactory
standing, or who has had four years or more of experience in en-
gineering work of a character satisfactory to the Board; and who, in
addition, has successfully passed the examination in the fundamental
engineering subjects prior to completion of the requisite years of
experience in engineering work, as provided in Section 12 of this
article, and who shall have received from the Board, as hereinafter
defined, a certificate stating that he has successfully passed this
portion of the professional examinations.]

(c)    The term "engineer-in-training," within the meaning and
intent of this article, shall mean a person who complies with the
requirements for education, experience and character, and has passed
an examination in the fundamental engineering subjects, as pro-
vided in Sections 12 and 14 of this article.

[(d) The term "practice of engineering" within the meaning and
intent of this article shall mean any professional service or creative
work requiring engineering education, training, and experience and
the application of special knowledge of the mathematical, physical,
and engineering sciences to such professional services or creative
work as consultation, investigation, evaluation, planning, design, and
supervision of construction for the purpose of assuring compliance
with specifications and design, in connection with any public or
private utilities, structure, buildings, machines, equipment, processes,
works, or projects. The practice of engineering shall not include the
work ordinarily performed by persons who operate or maintain
machinery or equipment nor to general real estate practices such as
appraising, evaluating or estimating the value of real property.

A person shall be construed to practice or offer to practice engi-
neering, within the meaning and intent of this article, who practices
any branch of the profession of engineering; or who by verbal claim,
sign, advertisement, letterhead, card, or in any other way represents
himself to be a professional engineer, or through the use of some
other title implies that he is a professional engineer; or who holds
himself out as able to perform, or who does perform any engineering
service or work or any other professional service designated by the
practitioner or recognized by educational authorities as engineering.]

(d)    The term "practice of engineering," within the meaning and
intent of this article, shall mean any service or creative work the per-
formance of which requires engineering education, training, and ex-
perience in the application of special knowledge of the mathematical,
