306                                LAWS OF MARYLAND                       [CH. 188

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 321A be and it is hereby added to Article 66½
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition and 1966 Sup-
plement) title "Motor Vehicles," subtitle "Offenses and Prosecu-
tions," to follow immediately after Section 321 thereof, and to read
as follows:

321 A.

(a)  The Maryland State Police may issue a summons for a
violation of the provisions of this Article to an operator of a non-
resident commercial motor vehicle who has complied with the pro-
visions of this section and such operator has been approved by the
Department of Maryland State Police.

(b)  A person, firm or corporation operating commercial motor
vehicles over the highways of this State which are licensed in
another state and who desires to qualify for the privilege extended
by the provisions of subsection (a) of this section must make written
application to the Department of Maryland State Police. By regu-
lation, the Department of Maryland State Police shall prescribe
the form of application and such other requirements it may deem
necessary to qualify the applicant.

(c)  It shall be the duty of an approved operator to obey each
summons issued under the provisions of this section. Failure to
obey a summons, or if after due notice, failure of the approved oper-
ator or his agent to post the required collateral shall constitute a
violation of this section. For such violation the State Comptroller
may cause forfeiture of the operator's bond posted in compliance
with Section 419 of the "Road Tax on Motor Carriers Act" in
Article 81 of this Code and may also revoke the operator's registra-
tion and operating privileges issued under said "Road Tax on Motor
Carriers Act." Notice of revocation sent by registered mail to the
operator at his last known address shall be just and sufficient notice
that the operator's registration and operating privileges are revoked.

(d)   Thirty days after notice of revocation has been sent, further
operation in this State by the operator so revoked shall constitute a
violation and each such operation shall be a separate offense and
shall be punishable in accordance with the provisions set forth in
the "Road Tax on Motor Carriers Act" in Article 81 of this Code
for a violation of said Act.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.
