Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect

(Senate Bill 396)

AN ACT to add twelve ELEVEN new sections to Article 89B of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Replacement Volume), title
"State Roads", to follow immediately after Section 235 thereof and
to be under the new subtitle "Highway Beautification", regulating
junk yards along Interstate and Primary Highways Systems, set-
ting forth definitions, restrictions as to location along certain high-
ways; requiring an annual license and fee IN CERTAIN CASES;
requiring certain junk yards to be RELOCATED OR SCREENED
obscured by means of natural objects or fences; and providing
authority to purchase or condemn property in certain situations,
and relating generally to the control of junk yards by the State
Roads Commission.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That twelve ELEVEN new sections be and are hereby added to
Article 89B of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Replacement
Volume), title "State Roads", to be under the new subtitle "Highway
Beautification", to follow immediately after Section 235 of said
Article, and to read as follows:

236. Declaration of Purpose.

The General Assembly of Maryland for the purpose of promoting
the public safety, health, welfare, convenience, and enjoyment of
public travel, to protect the public investments in highways and to
preserve and enhance the scenic beauty of lands bordering public
highways, hereby declares it to be in the public interest to regulate
and restrict the establishment, operation, and maintenance of junk
yards in areas adjacent to the interstate and primary systems within
this State. The General Assembly hereby finds and declares that junk
yards which do not ARE TO conform to the requirements of this Act.
