duties of their office as required, and shall not represent any client
or receive any professional fee of any kind in connection with any
matter which is pending or is appropriate to be pending before
any Court, Magistrate, Board, Commission or Agency] not engage
in the private practice of law in any matter whatsoever. The
salary of the [four] five part-time Assistant State's Attorneys shall
be at such compensation, not exceeding [five thousand, four hun-
dred dollars ($5,400)] seven thousand, two hundred dollars ($7,-
200) per annum each, as the State's Attorney may deem proper,
to be paid by the County on the certification of the State's At-
torney to the County Commissioners.
(3) The salary of the State's Attorney, the Deputy State's At-
torney and the Assistant State's Attorneys shall be paid in equal
semi-monthly installments.
(4) The Deputy State's Attorney and the Assistant State's At-
torneys shall perform such work as may be directed by the State's
Attorney, or as authorized by law, and under the direction of the
State's Attorney, may present cases to the Grand Juries, sign in-
dictments and criminal informations and perform such other acts
and duties in relation to the Grand Juries and in the operation of
the office as are necessary and proper.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.

(House Bill 451)
AN ACT to add new Section 70-12 to the Code of Public Local Laws
of Prince George's County (1963 Edition), being also Article 17
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "Prince
George's County," subtitle "70. Sheriff," to follow immediately
after Section 70-11 thereof as enacted by Chapter 626 of the Laws
of 1966, to authorize the Sheriff to make rules and regulations for
the maintenance, discipline and conduct of the county jail, its
prisoners and employees; to entitle prisoners in the county jail
to a diminution of the period of their confinement under certain
rules and regulations.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 70-12 be and the same is hereby added to the Code
of Public Local Laws of Prince George's County (1963 Edition),
being also Article 17 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland,
title "Prince George's County," subtitle "70. Sheriff," to follow
immediately after Section 70-11 thereof as enacted by Chapter 626
of the Laws of 1966, and to read as follows:
70-12. Rules and regulations for county jail; diminution of period
of confinement of prisoner.
The Sheriff shall have full power and authority to make, repeal,
alter or amend such rules and regulations, not inconsistent with law,
