(1964 Replacement Volume and 1966 Cumulative Supplement), title
"Justices of the Peace," subtitle "Process and Practice," be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
38.
Attachment for contempt and fine for failure of witnesses to
appear; special provisions as to Prince George's County.
(a) If the witness shall fail to appear on the return day of the
summons the justice shall issue an attachment of contempt made
returnable before the justice issuing the same who may, at his dis-
cretion, fine such defaulting witness in any sum not exceeding fifty
dollars ($50.00) and shall issue execution for such fine and costs;
and the same shall be collected and paid to the justice who shall, on
or before the first day of January, annually, pay the same to the
clerk of the circuit court for the county.
(b) The Judges of the People's Court shall have the power and
authority to enforce obedience to their rules, orders and judgments
by attachments, and to inflict punishment for contempt of Court by
a fine not exceeding the sum of fifty ($50.00) dollars, or by confine-
ment in the County Jail not to exceed ten (10) days; said fine shall
be paid to the County Commissioners of Prince George's County;
provided, however, that the power aforesaid to punish for contempt
shall not be construed to extend to any cases or circumstances, ex-
cept those set forth and provided in Section 4 of Article 26, of the
Annotated Code of Maryland, as within the power of the
several Courts of this State to inflict punishment for contempt of
Court.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.

(House Bill 190)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 20-7 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Prince George's County (1963
Edition, being Article 17 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland), title "Prince George's County," subtitle "County
Treasurer," providing that certain clerks in the County Treas-
urer's office for Prince George's County shall be employed and
compensated in accordance with Merit System regulations appli-
cable in Prince George's County, and relating generally to the
status and employment of such clerks.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 20-7 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Prince
George's County (1963 Edition, being Article 17 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Prince George's County,"
subtitle "County Treasurer," be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
