CHAPTER 129
(House Bill 71)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 87 and
SECTION 88 of Article 66½ of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Motor Vehicles," subtitle "Administration—
Registration—Titling," raising the age at which certain non-resi-
dent minor persons are exempted from the licensing requirements
for operators under the Motor Vehicle Law; and
raising the age at
which certain minor persons may be licensed as operators and

chauffeurs under the Motor Vehicle Law with certain exceptions

TO REGULATE THE ISSUANCE OF MOTOR VEHICLE
OPERATOR'S AND CHAUFFEUR'S LICENSES BY THE DE-
PARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES TO MINORS, AND TO
PROVIDE THE CONDITIONS FOR ISSUANCE OF OPERA-
TOR'S LICENSES.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 87 and SECTION 88 of Article 66½ of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Motor Vehicles," subtitle
"Administration—Registration—Titling," be and they are AND IT
IS hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:

87.

The following persons are exempt from license hereunder:

(a) Any employee of the United States government while oper-

ating a motor vehicle owned by the United States government and

while engaged in official business of the United States government;

(b) Any person while driving or operating any road machine,

farm tractor, or implement of husbandry temporarily operated or
moved on a highway of this State;

(c) A nonresident who is at least [sixteen (16)] eighteen (18)
years of age and who has in his immediate possession a
valid oper-

ator's license issued to him in his home state or country may operate
a motor vehicle in this State only as an operator;

(d) A nonresident who is at least eighteen (18) years of age and

who is licensed in his home state or country may operate a motor

vehicle in this State either as an operator or chauffeur except any

such person must be licensed as a chauffeur hereunder before accept-

ing employment as a chauffeur for a resident of this State:

(e) Any nonresident who is at least eighteen years of age; whose
home state or country does not require the licensing of operators, may

operate a motor vehicle in this State as an operator only, for a period

not more than ninety day (90) days in any registration year, if the
motor vehicle so operated is duly registered in his her own name in

the home state or country of such nonresident.
