The prime function of a Health Careers Council would be to form an
aggressive coordinated year-round program for meeting future
needs for health professionals in Maryland.

It is planned that the Health Careers Council would conduct such
services as follows:

Information Programs to acquaint students in 7th through 12th
grades with the health careers, and recruit them for these pro-
fessions.

Counselor Conferences to orient school guidance counselors on
health careers.

Informational Presentations about health careers at PTA meet-
ings, county, and state fairs, service clubs and other similar gather-
ings to inform the parents and larger public of opportunities of-
fered in health careers.

Continuing and Expanding Publicity on Careers throughout the
State by using public service features of mass media vehicles—such
as feature articles in newspapers, spot announcements on radio and
television.

Maintenance of Current Information to answer inquiries about:
(1) schools having educational programs in health careers; (2)
openings for applicants to these schools in or near Maryland; (3)
scholarships, student loan funds, and other financial aids to prospec-
tive students; and (4) curriculum requirements for admission to
health career educational and training programs.

Information Service to Teachers, Librarians, and Counselors of
Maryland schools on the availability of health career educational
recruitment aids for incorporation in lesson plans, school libraries,
and distribution to students.

Organizing a State-wide Speakers' Bureau and list of local profes-
sional resource "contact" people available to school personnel and
students.

Promote and Assist in the Development of Health Career Clubs
and youth work-experience programs in hospitals and other health
agencies.

Promote the Establishment of Scholarship Aid and Student Loan
Funds.

Assist in the Coordination of Planning and Programming to
meet future personnel needs of health service institutions and agen-
cies in Maryland. Provide schools and health service organizations
with periodic statements of present and forecast needs for profes-
sional people.
