(b) The provisions of this subtitle shall be applicable in Frederick
County, except as modified herein. The Sheriff of the county is
authorized to appoint not more than six members of any fire company
to have the powers of this sub-title. Such powers may be exercised
in incorporated cities, or towns, but only under the discretion and
control of the chief of the police force of the city or town.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1966.

CHAPTER 99
(House Bill 794)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 40 (w)
of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Supple-
ment), title "Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact," subtitle
"State's Attorney," to increase the allowance and annual salary of
the State's Attorney of Wicomico County, TO PROVIDE FOR
THE APPOINTMENT OF AN ASSISTANT STATE'S ATTOR-
NEY and to require said State's Attorney to maintain and staff
an office in the Wicomico County Court House, both effective
with the next term of office.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 40 (w) of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1965 Supplement), title "Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact,"
subtitle "State's Attorney," be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

40.

(w) In Wicomico County, (1) the State's Attorney's salary is
[five thousand dollars ($5,000)] nine thousand dollars ($9,000)
EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS ($8,000).

(2)    The State's Attorney's allowance for office expenses, includ-
ing stationery, postage, premium on official bond, and clerical serv-
ices, is [two thousand dollars ($2,000)] three thousand dollars
($3,000) to be paid upon submission of properly certified vouchers to
the Wicomico County Council.

(3)    The State's Attorney of Wicomico County is required to
maintain and staff an office in the Wicomico County Court House.

(4)  SUBJECT TO THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE RESI-
DENT JUDGE OF THE CIRCUIT COURT OF WICOMICO
COUNTY AND WITH THE APPROVAL OF THE WICOMICO
COUNTY COUNCIL, THE STATE'S ATTORNEY MAY APPOINT
A MEMBER OF THE BAR OF WICOMICO COUNTY AS AS-
SISTANT STATE'S ATTORNEY, TO SERVE FOR A PARTICU-
LAR CASE OR SERIES OF CASES. THE WICOMICO COUNTY
COUNCIL SHALL PROVIDE AND FIX THE COMPENSATION
OF SUCH ASSISTANT STATE'S ATTORNEY. UNDER THE
DIRECTION OF THE STATE'S ATTORNEY, THE ASSISTANT
