STATE'S ATTORNEY SHALL PRESENT CASES AND PER-
FORM SUCH OTHER ACTS AND DUTIES IN THE OPERATION
OF THE OFFICE AS ARE NECESSARY AND PROPER.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the provisions of this
Act shall not be construed to extend or apply to the State's At-
torney in office on the effective date of this Act, but the provisions
of this Act shall take effect with the next term of office.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1966.

(House Bill 905)
AN ACT to repeal Section 37 (e) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1964 Replacement Volume), title "Sheriffs," subtitle
"Compensation and Duties," and to enact new Section 37 (e) in lieu
thereof, to stand in the place of the section repealed, providing that
the sheriff of Caroline County shall appoint a deputy and may ap-
point additional deputies, and fixing the compensation of the sheriff,
deputy, and matron-cook for the jail.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37 (e) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1964 Replacement Volume), title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Compensation
and Duties," be and it is hereby repealed and that new Section 37 (e)
be and it is hereby enacted in lieu thereof, to stand in the place of the
section repealed, and to read as follows:
87.
(e) The Sheriff of Caroline County shall receive an annual salary
of Four Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($4,500) and shall be allowed
his necessary expenses for mileage in connection with his official du-
ties and for boarding and keeping prisoners at the county jail. He
shall appoint a deputy, who shall receive an annual salary of not
less than Two Thousand Eight Hundred Dollars ($2,800), and a
matron-cook for the county jail, who shall receive an annual salary of
not less than One Thousand Eight Hundred Dollars ($1,800.). He
may appoint such additional deputies as may be necessary, with the
approval of the County Commissioners as to number and compensa-
tion.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the provisions of this Act
shall not be construed to extend or apply to the sheriff in office on
the effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act shall
take effect with the next term of office.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1966.
