zen of Wicomico County as Chief Judge or substitute judge, FOR A
TERM OF OFFICE NOT TO EXCEED TWO YEARS, with the fol-
lowing qualifications:

That he is at least thirty (30) years of age and not over seventy
(70) years of age, has been a resident of Wicomico County con-
tinuously for at least five years prior to his appointment, and is dis-
tinguished for integrity and wisdom.

(a) The Chief Judge of the Court shall receive an annual salary

as determined by the Wicomico County Council but not less than

twelve thousand dollars ($12,000,00) or more than seventeen thou-

sand five hundred ($17,500.00). The Substitute Judge shall

receive an annual salary as determined by the Wicomico County

Council, but not less than one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) or
more than three thousand dollars ($3,000.00). With the consent
of the Wicomico County Council, the Chief Judge may require the

Substitute Judge to sit on the said Court. Whenever the Substitute

Judge shall sit on the court in excess of fifty days annually, he shall
receive, in addition to his regular compensation, a sum as deter-

mined by the Wicomico County Council but not less than fifty dol-

lars ($50.00) for for each day he sits on said Court.

(b) The Chief Judge of the Court shall not engage in the private
practice of law or engage in any private business during his term of

office. The Substitute Judge may engage in the private practice of

IN THE AMOUNT OF FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ($15,-
000.00). THE SUBSTITUTE JUDGE SHALL RECEIVE AN
ANNUAL SALARY IN THE AMOUNT OF TWO THOUSAND
FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($2,500.00). THE CHIEF JUDGE
MAY REQUIRE THE SUBSTITUTE JUDGE TO SIT ON THE
SAID COURT UP TO FIFTY (50) DAYS ANNUALLY; AND
WITH THE CONSENT OF THE COUNTY COUNCIL, THE CHIEF
JUDGE MAY REQUIRE THE SUBSTITUTE JUDGE TO SIT ON
THE COURT IN EXCESS OF 50 DAYS ANNUALLY. THE SUB-
STITUTE JUDGE SHALL RECEIVE IN ADDITION TO HIS
REGULAR COMPENSATION, THE SUM OF FIFTY DOLLARS
($50.00) FOR EACH DAY IN EXCESS OF 50 DAYS ON WHICH
HE SITS ON THE COURT IN ANY YEAR.

(B) THE CHIEF JUDGE OF THE COURT SHALL NOT EN-
GAGE IN PRIVATE PRACTICE OF LAW. HE SHALL DE-
VOTE HIS ENTIRE TIME TO THE DUTIES OF HIS OFFICE
AND HE SHALL NOT HOLD ANY OTHER POSITION OR
OCCUPATION OR ENGAGE IN ANY OTHER BUSINESS IN-
TERFERING WITH HIS GIVING FULL ATTENTION TO THE
WORK OF HIS OFFICE OR INCONSISTENT WITH THE DUTIES
OR RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE OFFICE OF CHIEF JUDGE.
THE SUBSTITUTE JUDGE MAY ENGAGE IN THE PRIVATE
PRACTICE OF law during his term of office, but not in said Court
nor in connection with any case of which the People's Court has
jurisdiction.
