Section 70-9, heading "Same: tenure," of subtitle "Sheriff"; and to
enact a new Section 70-11, heading "Personnel under Merit Sys-
tem," and add new Section 72-3, heading "Personnel under Merit
System," to subtitle "State's Attorney," of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Prince George's County, (1963 Edition), being also Article
17 of the Code of Public Local Laws of the State of Maryland, to
provide that in Prince George's County certain employees of the
Sheriff and State's Attorney shall be subject to the County Merit
System and that certain employees of the Park and Planning
Commission may be placed under such Merit System.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 59-8, subtitle "Park and Planning Commission," heading
"Employees generally," be amended AND THE SAME IS HEREBY
REPEALED AND RE-ENACTED; Section 70-8, heading "Same;
compensation, duties," and Section 70-9, heading "Same: tenure," of
subtitle "Sheriff," be repealed and that a new Section 70-11, heading
"Personnel under Merit System," be added; and a new Section 72-3,
heading "Personnel under Merit System," be added to subtitle
"State's Attorney," of the Code of Public Local Laws of Prince
George's County, (1963 Edition) being also Article 17 of the Code
of Public Local Laws of Maryland, to read as follows:
59 8. Employees generally.
70-11. Personnel under Merit System.
All employees, including jail guards and matrons, appointed
by the Sheriff or assigned to him by the County Commissioners
for Prince George's County, shall be subject to said County's Merit
System as to qualifications, compensation and all other regulations,
with the exception of Deputy Sheriffs.
72-3. Personnel under Merit System.
All employees appointed by the State's Attorney or assigned to
him by the County Commissioners for Prince George's County, shall
be subject to said County's Merit System as to qualification, com-
pensation, and all other regulations, with the exception of the Deputy
and Assistant State's Attorneys and investigative personnel.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1966.

The commission may appoint, fix the compensation of, or contract
for the services of such planning, engineering, administrative, audit
ing, clerical or other employees as from time to time in its judgment
may be necessary for the administration of this subtitle, on a re-
gional basis, provided that such commission may avail itself of the
services of the Prince George's County Merit Board to place the
employees of that region under the Prince George's County Merit
System as to qualification, compensation and other regulations.
