203.

The county commissioners shall provide for the sheriff's office of
the county all necessary materials and equipment, county owned
uniforms for all deputy sheriffs and such county owned automobiles
as [may be necessary] they may deem necessary in carrying out the

duties of the office;
and shall annually appropriate such sums as are
necessary for the proper administration of the affairs of the office
and the discharge of its responsibilities.
No expenditure shall be
made in excess of $250.00 by such office without their prior approval.

203.

THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS SHALL PROVIDE FOR THE
SHERIFF'S OFFICE OF THE COUNTY ALL NECESSARY MA-
TERIALS AND EQUIPMENT, COUNTY-OWNED UNIFORMS
FOR ALL DEPUTY SHERIFFS AND SUCH COUNTY-OWNED
AUTOMOBILES AS THEY MAY DEEM NECESSARY IN CARRY-
ING OUT THE DUTIES OF THE OFFICE. THEY SHALL ESTAB-
LISH AND MAY CHANGE FROM TIME TO TIME THE COM-
PENSATION PAID TO THE CHIEF DEPUTY SHERIFF AND
THE DEPUTY SHERIFFS, AND SHALL ANNUALLY APPRO-
PRIATE SUCH SUMS AS ARE NECESSARY FOR THE PROPER
ADMINISTRATION OF THE AFFAIRS OF THE SHERIFF'S
OFFICE AND THE DISCHARGE OF ITS RESPONSIBILITIES.
NO EXPENDITURE SHALL BE MADE IN EXCESS OF $250.00
BY SUCH OFFICE WITHOUT THEIR PRIOR APPROVAL.

204A.

(a) There shall be one chief deputy sheriff for the county and [dep-
uty sheriffs to be appointed by the Board of Public Safety not be ex-
ceed twelve (12) in number] six (6) deputy sheriffs, who shall be full

tion and Duties", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments; and that Section 204 of Article 19 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "St. Mary's County",
sub-title "Sheriff", be and it is hereby repealed; and that Sections

203, 204A and 204B of said Article, title and sub-title, be and they

are hereby repealed and re enacted, with amendments; and that
Section 45D of said Article and title, sub-title "Classified Service", be
and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments SEC-
TIONS 203 AND 204 OF ARTICLE 19 OF THE CODE OF PUBLIC
LOCAL LAWS OF MARYLAND (1930 EDITION), TITLE "ST.
MARY'S COUNTY", SUB-TITLE "SHERIFF", BE AND THEY
ARE HEREBY REPEALED; AND THAT NEW SECTIONS 203,
204 AND 204A, BE AND THEY ARE HEREBY ADDED TO
SUCH ARTICLE, TITLE AND SUB-TITLE TO STAND IN THE
PLACE OF THE SECTIONS REPEALED, and all to read as
follows:

37.

(r) The Sheriff of St. Mary's County shall receive an annual
salary of [$3,300] $7,000 and he shall be allowed [in addition thereto
the sum of $1,700 for expenses] no expenses. He shall be assisted
by such number of deputies as are provided for in the public local
laws of St. Mary's County.
