1652                            JOINT RESOLUTIONS

Resolved, That such commission report back to the General As-
sembly by January 1, 1966.

(House Joint Resolution 64)

House Joint Resolution commending Detective Lieutenant William
H. Jessie for meritorious service in protecting the lives and prop-
erty of the citizens of Montgomery County during his brilliant
career with the County Police Force and honoring the memory
of this heroic public servant who was killed in the line of duty
on December 30, 1964.

Whereas, Detective Lieutenant Jessie was appointed in 1954 as
a Police Private to the Montgomery County Police Force and was
assigned to the Silver Spring area; and

Whereas, Lieutenant Jessie rose rapidly through the ranks to
Detective Corporal, then Sergeant, and finally to the rank of Lieu-
tenant on July 1, 1963. He was at that time transferred to the Rock-
ville station where he was in charge of detectives. While on the
Force, this superior policeman received one commendation from the
Superintendent of Police and fifteen commendations from citizens;
and

Whereas, For the years July 1, 1962, through June 30, 1963,
Lieutenant Jessie received the "Columbian Medal of Merit" awarded
by the Knights of Columbus to the Montgomery County "Policeman
of the Year"; and

Whereas, the Lieutenant, by his unfailing and continued devotion
to duty contributed significantly to the welfare of the people of
Montgomery County; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Delegates of Maryland, That Lieutenant
Jessie's memory be revered by a grateful citizenry for his constant
devotion to duty during his lifetime and the condolences of this
Body be forwarded to his widow, Mrs. Doris L. Jessie and to his
daughter, Diane; and be it further

Resolved, That copies of this resolution be sent to Mrs. Jessie
and Diane at 8316 Tahona Drive, Silver Spring, Maryland.
