Police.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 5 (c), (d) and (e) of Article 88B of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition and 1964 Supplement), title "State
Police," subtitle "In General," be and they are hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

(c) Salaries to be paid to police employees of the Department
shall be as follows PAYABLE AT THE RATES SPECIFIED IN
COLUMN A FOR THE PERIOD FROM JULY 1, 1965, UNTIL
SEPTEMBER 30, 1965, INCLUSIVE; AND SHALL BE PAYABLE
AT THE RATES SPECIFIED IN COLUMN B ON AND AFTER
OCTOBERS, 1965:

Any police employee receiving the salary hereinbefore specified
for the rank which he holds when this section becomes effective
shall not have such salary reduced by reason of the establishment
of the salary schedule herein prescribed for said rank, so long as he
shall remain incumbent in that rank.
(d) Each of the said salaries (less, in each instance, the sum of
sixteen hundred dollars ($1,600)) shall for the purposes of this sec-
tion be deemed to be the base pay SALARY for each rank and grade.
Each employee of the Department, except the Superintendent, shall
receive, in addition to the [base pay] salary received by him during
each month of every year an amount equal to a percentage of base pay
SALARY in accordance with this schedule:
After one year of service, 4%
After two years of service, 8%
After three years of service, 12%
After four years of service, 16%
After five years of service, 20%
After six years of service, 24%
After nine years of service, 28%
After twelve years of service, 32%
After fifteen years of service, 36%
After eighteen years of service, 40%
After twenty-one years of service, 44%
