must be graded within thirty days following the date of the
examination.

Any person who shall have taken and failed to pass any such
examination shall not be entitled to take any further examination
until fourteen (14) days after the date of the last examination in
which he failed. Any person shall be entitled to take [not more than]
three examinations for an initial fee of $5.00. Any person requiring
more than three examinations shall pay an additional fee of $5.00
which shall entitle him to take three more examinations [but no
more]. THEREAFTER, A FEE OF $5.00 SHALL BE PAID EACH
TIME SAID EXAMINATION SHALL BE TAKEN.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1964.

CHAPTER 31

(Senate Bill 199)

AN ACT to add new Section 67A to Article 27 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Crimes and Punish-
ments", sub-title "Cruelty to Animals", to follow immediately
after Section 67 thereof, to authorize representatives of State-
chartered humane societies AND IN BALTIMORE CITY THE
BALTIMORE CITY HEALTH DEPARTMENT to visit and in-
spect, after having given written notice, any CERTAIN premises
where persons are engaged in the business of buying, selling or
breeding dogs, or the premises of a kennel, for the purpose of
determining if there is inhumane treatment of dogs therein.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 67A be and it is hereby added to Article 27 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Crimes and
Punishments", sub-title "Cruelty to Animals", to follow immediately
after Section 67 thereof, and to read as follows:

67A.

Any authorized representative DIRECTOR of a State-chartered
humane society
WHEN ACCOMPANIED BY A SHERIFF OR ONE
OF HIS DEPUTIES, after having given prior written notice of the
time and date
TO THE OWNERS OR OCCUPANTS OF THE
PREMISES, may visit and inspect the premises where any person is
engaged in the business of buying, selling, trading, or breeding dogs,
or the premises of any kennels where twenty-five or more dogs are
kept, for the purpose of determining if there is inhumane treatment
of dogs therein which is prohibited by this sub-title or any other
applicable law.
THIS SECTION DOES NOT APPLY TO ANY
PREMISES (1) ON WHICH THE KEEPING OR BREEDING OF
DOGS IS SOLELY FOR THE PURPOSE OF MEDICAL OR RE-
LATED RESEARCH OR LABORATORY TESTS; (2) OPERATED
BY A LICENSED AND REGULARLY PRACTICING VETERI-
