of their appointments and the second deputy a member of the
party whose candidate for governor at the last election prior to
the appointment received the second highest total vote.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 123 of Article 33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Elections", sub-title "Voting Machines", be
and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:
123.
(a) The board of election supervisors shall appoint a custodian
of voting machines and deputy custodian whose duty it shall be to
prepare the machines for use. The custodian and deputy custodian
shall be appointed respectively from each of the two leading political
parties and their compensation shall be fixed by the board of election
supervisors.
(b) In Baltimore County the staff of the custodian of voting ma-
chines shall consist of three members, a custodian and two deputies
and it shall be their duty to prepare the machines for use. The cus-
todian and one deputy shall be appointed from among the members
of the same political party as that to which the governor, incumbent
at the time of the appointment, belongs. The remaining deputy shall
be appointed from among the members of the political party whose
candidate for governor at the last election prior to the time of the
appointment received the second highest total vote. The compensa-
tion of the staff of the custodian shall be fixed by the Board of Super-
visors of Election of Baltimore County.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1963.

(Senate Bill 131)
AN ACT to add new Section 126 to Article 52 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1962 Supplement), title "Justices of the Peace",
sub-title "Trial Magistrates System", to follow immediately after
Section 125A thereof, providing that the clerks in the Magistrates'
Courts of Baltimore County shall be responsible for administra-
tive duties which were heretofore the responsibility of the Trial
Magistrates and providing for a Chief Clerk to set up systems of
bookkeeping for the clerks and to act as a roving auditor of the
various clerk's accounts and records.
