Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby de-
clared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the immediate
preservation of the public health and safety, and having been passed
by a yea and nay vote supported by three-fifths of the members
elected to each of the two houses of the General Assembly, the same
shall take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 188
(House Bill 120)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 10-20 of
the Anne Arundel County Code (1957 Edition, being Article 2 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Anne Arundel
County," subtitle "Chapter 10. Fire Protection," subheading "Arti-
cle II. Organization—Division 2. Enginemen," as last amended by
Chapter 822 of the Acts of 1961, to clarify the language of the law
relating to the pension payable to retired enginemen of fire com-
panies in Anne Arundel County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 10-20 of the Anne Arundel County Code (1957 Edition,
being Article 2 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title
"Anne Arundel County," subtitle "Chapter 10. Fire Protection," sub-
heading "Article II. Organization—Division 2. Enginemen," as last
amended by Chapter 822 of the Acts of 1961, be and it is hereby re-
pealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

10-20.

The County Commissioner may retire any engineman of a volun-
teer fire company, who shall after June 1, 1939, become permanently
disabled while in the active performance of his duties. No engineman
shall be retired under this section until he has been examined by a
Board of three physicians of the State Department of Health and
their findings as to his disability have been certified to the County
Commissioners. Any engineman so retired shall receive a monthly
pension equivalent to sixty-six and two-thirds per centum (66-2/3%)
of his monthly salary at the time of retirement [, in which case he
shall receive an annual pension equivalent to one-fortieth (1/40) of
his monthly salary for each year of service].

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1963.

of Section 60 of Article 35 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
