SECTION 2 OF THIS ACT SHALL TAKE EFFECT ON JULY
1, 1963.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 331 of
Article 66½ and Section 107 of Article 52 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1957 Edition), titles "Motor Vehicles" and "Justices
of the Peace", respectively, sub-titles "Offenses and Prosecutions"
and "Trial Magistrates System", respectively, increasing certain
fees collected by justices of the peace or trial magistrates in cases
involving violations of the motor vehicle laws and increasing the
amounts to be paid to the county commissioners of each county for
certain cases before trial magistrates involving violations of the
motor vehicle laws.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 331 of Article 66½ and Section 107 of Article 52 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), titles "Motor Vehicles"
and "Justices of the Peace", respectively, sub-titles "Offenses and
Prosecutions" and "Trial Magistrates System", respectively, be and
they are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:
331.
Every justice of the peace or trial magistrate shall maintain within
the limits of the county for which he is appointed a suitable office for
the transaction of his duties as such, and shall under no circum-
stances try any case involving a violation of any provision of the
motor vehicle laws of the State, or impose or collect any fine or
collateral in any case except within said office or, if outside his office
hours, within the house in which he regularly resides.
The fees of justices of the peace or trial magistrate in cases
involving alleged violation of the motor vehicle laws of this State
shall be as follows:
IN CASES IN WHICH THERE IS A GUILTY PLEA EN-
TERED, THE FEE FOR ENTERING SUCH PLEA SHALL BE
THREE DOLLARS ($3.00).
IN CASES IN WHICH A NOT GUILTY PLEA IS ENTERED,
BUT THERE IS A CONVICTION OF GUILTY ENTERED, THE
FEE FOR ENTERING THE GUILTY PLEA SHALL BE FOUR
DOLLARS ($4.00).
And no justice of the peace or trial magistrate shall charge, re-
ceive or attempt to collect any fees other than or in excess of those
enumerated in this section in any case arising under this article.
No justice shall try any case except upon warrant duly prepared
in the form required by law, which shall be preserved with the
other papers pertaining to his office.
