AN ACT to add new Sections 30-12.1 to 30-12.6, inclusive, to the
Anne Arundel County Code, 1957 (being Article 2 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Anne Arundel County,"
subtitle "Chapter 30. Fire Prevention Code," subheading "Article
I—In General," to follow immediately after Section 30-12 thereof,
to provide for payment of pensions and benefits to retired chiefs
and deputies of the Anne Arundel County Fire Prevention Bureau
or Arson Bureau, and to provide for payments to the widows and
children of retired chiefs or deputies.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the. General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Sections 30-12.1 to 30-12.6, inclusive, be and they are hereby
added to the Anne Arundel County Code, 1957 (being Article 2 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Anne Arundel
County," subtitle "Chapter 30. Fire Prevention Code," subheading
"Article I—In General," and all to read as follows:
30-12.1.
The County Commissioners may retire any Chief or Deputy of
the Fire Prevention Bureau or Arson Bureau who shall after July 1,
1954, become permanently or totally disabled while in the active
performance of his duties. No Chief or Deputy of the Fire Preven-
tion Bureau or Arson Bureau shall be retired under this section
until he has been examined by a Board of three physicians of the
State Department of Health and their findings as to his disability
have been certified to the County Commissioners. Any Chief or
Deputy of the Fire Prevention Bureau or Arson Bureau so retired
shall receive an annual pension equivalent to seventy-five per cen-
tum (75%) of his monthly salary at the time of retirement, except
in the case of the Chief or Deputy of the Fire Prevention Bureau
or Arson Bureau who retires with less than twenty (20) consecutive
years of service, in which case he shall receive an annual pension
equivalent to one-fortieth (1/40) of his monthly salary for each
year of service.
30-12.2.
The County Commissioners may retire after July 1, 1954, any
Chief or Deputy of the Fire Prevention Bureau or Arson Bureau
who has performed faithful services in this capacity for a period of
not less than twenty (20) years. Any Chief or Deputy Chief of the
Fire Prevention Bureau or Arson Bureau so retired shall receive
an annual pension based on his salary at the time of retirement
according to the following schedule:
For not less than 20 nor more than 24 years service, fifty per cen-
tum (50%) of salary.
For not less than 25 nor more than 29 years service, sixty per
centum (60%) of salary.
For 30 or more years of service, seventy per centum (70%) of
salary.
