836            JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [March 6,

A bill entitled, an act to alter the district line between the
5th, 6th and 9th Election Districts of Cecil county; also,

A bill entitled, an act further amendatory of an act passed
at January session, 1854, entitled, an act. for the relief of the
sureties on the bonds of William Lyles, of Thomas, former
collector of the Third Collection District of Prince George's
county; also,

A bill entitled, an act to appoint an additional Constable
in Election Districts, No. 4 and 15, in Somerset county;
also,

A bill entitled, an act to protect the public bridge at
Crompton, in Queen Anne's county; also,

A bill entitled, an act to define and limit the fees and com-
pensation of the surveyor of Charles county; also,

A bill entitled, an act to amend and explain an act passed
at January session, 1856, chapter 119, entitled, an act for
the relief of the sureties on the official bond of Thomas H.
Osborne, of Charles, former collector for the Third Collection
District of Prince George's county ;

Severally endorsed, "passed by yeas and nays ;" also,
Returned the following bills :

A bill entitled, an act to authorise the Mayor and City
Council of Baltimore, to cause a new assessment to be made
of the property in that city ;

Endorsed, "passed by yeas and nays, with proposed
amendments:''

AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.

Provided, that negro slaves shall be assessed at the value
fixed by the 9th section of the act of 1852, chapter 337 ;

In section 4, line -, after word "city," add " provided
that nothing herein contained in this act shall authorise the
said Mayor and City Council to assess and collect any tax
on any property which is now liable, under existing laws, in
Baltimore county, or any other county in this State ;"

The bill passed, as amended, by yeas and nays and as
follows :
