"Section 5. And be it enacted, that in consideration of the
risk and expense to be incurred by the said company, in erect-
ing the said bridge or bridges and keeping the same in re-
pair, the said bridge or bridges and all the profits of the same
shall be and hereby are vested in the president and directors
aforesaid, and their successors, to and for the use and benefit
of the stockholders aforesaid, in proportion to their respective
shares of stock in said company; and the same shall be and
remain exempt from any tax or appraisement whatever."
