Leave was granted to the committee on the Judiciary, to
introduce a bill to make valid a deed from M. S. Wickersham
and wife to John Plumley, Jr.

Mr. Bacon introduced the following preamble and resolu-
tion:

Whereas, the practicability and probable cost of removing
obstructions to navigation in the head waters of the Chesapeake
Bay, near the mouth of the Susquehanna River, have been as-
certained by an actual survey and examination, authorised by
the General Government, and a partial appropriation for that
purpose already made, therefore,

Resolved, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That our
representatives in Congress be requested to urge upon that
Body the necessity and propriety of such further appropriation
as may be required for the accomplishment of such improve-
ment, and that printed copies hereof, be transmitted to each
of the representatives aforesaid ;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Stirling offered the following order:

Ordered, That the memorial of the Trustees of the Male
Free School of Baltimore, heretofore referred to the committee
on Ways and Means, be referred to the committee on Educa-
tion;

Which was adopted.

On motion of Mr. Alexander,

The rules were suspended, and he presented the petition of
Mrs. Ellen Shark, widow of John Shark, a soldier in the Mary-
land Line of the Revolutionary war, for a pension,

Which was referred to the committee on Pensions.

Also, the petition of Mrs. Easter Williams, widow of Henry
Williams, a soldier in the Maryland Line of the Revolution-
ary war, for a pension,

Which was referred to the committee on Pensions.
Mr. Sterling proposed the following message:

By the House of Delegates,

January 19th, 1858.
Gentlemen of the Senate.

We propose with the concurrence of your honorable body,
that the joint committee heretofore appointed on the Mary-
land Hospital, have authority to visit the city of Balti-
