It was adopted.
The hour having arrived for taking up the order of the day
the House resumed the consideration of the bill entitled, an
act, a supplement to an act passed January session, 1853, en-
titled, an act to regulate Pilotage;
Mr. Smith, of Baltimore city, proposed the following
amendment:
Section 4th, And be it enacted, That the Pilots Association
of Baltimore shall give a bond annually to the State of Mary-
land in the sum of one hundred thousand dollars, to be ap-
proved by the Clerk of the Superior Court of Baltimore city,
conditioned for the safe piloting of all vessels committed to the
charge of any of the Pilots of said Association except on cases
of unavoidable accident;
Which was not assented to.
The bill was then read a second time, as amended, and or-
dered to be engrossed for a third reading.
