And there remains in the Treasury applicable to future
payments, the sum of one thousand three hundred and sixty-
four dollars, eighty-seven cents.

Which was read.

The Speaker laid before the House a report from Geo. R.
Crawford, Inspector of Tobacco Warehouse, No. 3.

Which was referred to the committee on Inspections,

Also, a report of M. M. Duval, Inspector of State Tobacco
Warehouse No. 2;

Which was referred to the committee on Inspections.

The unfinished business of Friday being in order, the House
took up for consideration the resolution offered by Mr. Rogers,
in referrence to furnishing St. John's College with muskets
and accoutrements;

Which was read the second time, and adopted.
The following message was received from the Senate;

By the Senate,

January 17th, 1858.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates:

We have your message proposing the concurrence of this
body to appoint a joint committee to consist of three members
from each House, to proceed to the city of Baltimore, and
make a thorough investigation into the affairs and condition
of the Maryland Penitentiary, and that they have full power
to send for persons and papers, and examine witnesses under
oath, if necessary, and to report to this General Assembly such
other legislation in reference thereto as may be necessary.

We concur therein, and have appointed on the part of the
Senate Messrs. Hoffman, Semmes and Stone.
