Which was adopted.
Mr. Kilgour offered the following order:
Ordered, That the bill relating to the Chesapeake and Ohio
Canal be made the special order for the day on Wednesday.

Which was rejected.

On motion of Mr. Goldsborough,

Leave was granted the Talbot county delegation to intro-
duce a bill to erect a public wharf at Chlora's Point, on the
waters of Choptank river, in Talbot county.

On motion of Mr. Goldsborough,

Leave was granted to the committee on Judiciary to intro-
duce a bill entitled, an act to provide for a State subscription
to Wingate's Maryland Register, for 1858 and 1859.
On motion of Mr. Alexander,

Leave was granted the Baltimore city delegation to intro-
duce a bill to confirm an ordinance of the Mayor and City
Council of Baltimore therein mentioned, and to facilitate the
collection of back taxes in said city.

On motion of Mr. Smith, of Baltimore city,
Leave was granted the Baltimore city delegation to intro-
duce a bill to prevent the sale of any articles of merchandise,
goods or chattels in the city of Baltimore on Sunday.

Mr. Magruder proposed the following resolution:

Resolved, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
State Librarian be authorised and empowered from time to
time to sell or exchange the surplus copies of the Maryland
Reports, Maryland Chancery Decisions, duplicate or imperfect
sets of books belonging to to the library, for law or such
other books as in his judgment will be of use to the library.

Which was read.

On motion of Mr. Hobbs,

Leave was granted to the Frederick county delegation to
introduce a bill to compensate John H. Pope, of Frederick
county for services rendered the State.

Mr. Belt proposed the following resolutions:
Whereas, a memorial has been presented to the Congress
of the United States, praying the General Government to
adopt such measures as may be best calculated to obtain a
deduction of the enormous duties now imposed by foreign
governments on American tobacco.

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That a
reduction of the foreign duties on American tobacco is de-
