wherein parties are empowered to agree in the appointment of
of a special judge,

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Stirling, from the committee on Ways and Means, re-
ported favorably on the bill entitled, an act to assess and
levy a tax; upon property in this State heretofore exempt
from the public assessment;                                   

Which was read the first time; also,

Favorably on the Senate bill entitled, an act to regulate
the fees of the notaries public of Kent, Cecil, Anne Arundel,
Washington and Caroline counties;

Which was read the first time; also,           

Favorably on the bill entitled, an act making an appropri-
ation for the erection of a hospital for the insane of this State;

Was read the first time.

Mr. Alexander, from the committee on Judiciary, reported
favorably on the bill entitled an act to authorise the clerks
of this State to make certain entries and to do certain acts, in
the absence of the circuit judge;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. McKinstry, from the committee on Agriculture, re-
ported favorably on the Senate bill entitled, an act amenda-
tory of an act to establish and endow the Agricultural Col-
lege in Maryland, passed at January session, 1856, ch. 97;
also,

Favorably on the Senate bill entitled, an act for the pro-
tection of certain game in Howard county, and the several
counties therein mentioned.

Mr. Stirling, chairman of the committee on Ways and
Means, reported favorably on a Senate bill entitled, an act
relating to coupons paid and returned to the Treasurer, and
certificates of stock purchased for the augmentation of the
sinking fund and to repeal resolution No. 8, of December
session, 1840.

On motion of Mr. Stirling,

The rules were suspended and said bill taken up for con-
sideration, it being on its second reading,

Mr. Stirling proposed the following amendments:
Section 2, line 5, after the word "Legislature" insert the
words "up to the close of the fiscal year next preceding the
session.

In section 5, line 3, strike out the word "during" and
insert "within ten days after the close of."
Section 5, line 5, strike out the word "now."
