Cathers and others praying for the passage of a law to authorise
him to practice his peculiar remedy and treatment of the dis-
ease commonly called cancer, beg leave to report.

That they have had said petition and the subject connected
therewith under consideration, and are of the opinion, that
the remedy of Mr. Cathers has considerable claims to origi-
nality and plausibility, and is sustained by the testimony of
many persons whose intelligence and veracity are entitled to
the highest respect, but we think that he is already sufficiently
authorised to practice his remedy by the law passed at De-
cember session 1838, chapter 281, and therefore believe that
no additional Legislation is necessary.

REPORT:

The committee on Ways and Means, to whom was referred
a leave to introduce a bill to provide for the appointment of
an assistant to the State Librarian, and fixing his compensa-
tion, beg leave to report that in their opinion such a bill is
not necessary, and they beg to be discharged from further
consideration of the subject.
