470           JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS         [Feb. 20,

Being upon its second reading,
Mr. Stirling proposed the following amendment:
Section 1, line 3, insert after the word "paid," the words
"on the first day of March, 1858 ;"
Which was assented to, and

The bill, as amended, read the second time and ordered to
be engrossed for a third reading.

Mr. Morgan moved that the House do now adjourn,
Which was determined in the negative.
Mr. Kidd moved a call of the House,
Which was sustained.

The roll was then called, and thirty-seven members were
found present.

The doorkeeper was then sent after the absentees.

After some time, the doorkeeper returned and announced
that he had summoned the absentees.

On motion of Mr. Magruder,
Further proceedings under the call were dispensed with.

On motion of Mr. Wickes,

The rules were suspended, and he offered the following
order:

Ordered, That all local "bills" shall be passed over for the
day, if without some unavoidable cause the member introdu-
cing the same should be absent;
Which was adopted.

The bill entitled, an act to prevent certain nuisances within
the limits of the corporation of the town of Havre de Grace,
in Harford county, and to grant to the commissioners of said
town, more ample powers in the abatement thereof ;

Was read the second time, and ordered to be engrossed for
a third reading.

The bill entitled, an act to provide for the compensation of
William F. Frick, for certain services performed by him
under an appointment of the Governor, in pursuance of an
order passed by the House of Delegates of Maryland, February
4, 1854, and for an argument in the Supreme Court of the
United States;

Was read the second time, and ordered to be engrossed for
a third reading.

The Senate bill entitled, an act relating to the public road
dividing the counties of Somerset and Worchester ;

Was read the second time, and ordered to be engrossed for
a third reading.
