410           JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 17,

Ordered, That the committee on Claims he authorised to
pay to John Smith, colored, a reasonable sum for cleaning
the Hall and committee room.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Harrington, from the committee on Corporations, re-
ported favorably on a bill entitled, an act to incorporate the
Miner's Saving Bank, in the city of Baltimore;

Which was read the first time; also,

Favorably on a bill entitled, an act to incorporate the Port
Deposit Library Association;

Which was read the first time; also,

Favorably on a bill entitled, an act supplementary to an
act passed at December session, 1849, entitled, an act to in-
corporate the Baltimore Copper Smelting Company;

Which was read the first time; also,

Favorably on a bill entitled, an act to change the corporate
name, style and title of the Mechanic's Exchange and Saving's
Company, incorporated by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, at January session, 1852, chapter 306, to that of the
Exchange Bank;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Goldsborough from the committee on Corporations,
reported favorably on a bill entitled, an act to incorporate the
American Improvement Company;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Dail from the committee on Claims, reported favorably
on a bill entitled, an act to compensate James Revell, for
professional services rendered the State, as counsel in the
matter of the application of Joseph Christie for a habeas cor-
pus by appointment of the Governor ;

Which was read the first time; also,

Reported favorably on a bill entitled, an act to refund to
Zadok Marshall, of Worcester county, a certain sum of money
erroneously paid into the Treasury; also,

Favorably on a bill entitled, an act to provide for the com-
pensation of Henry May, of the city of Baltimore, for legal
services rendered by him to the State in the Circuit Courts
for Allegany and Washington counties, in the years 1852 and
1853, at the request of the Governor ;

Mr. Duvall from the select committee, reported favorably
on a bill entitled, an act to lay out and open a road in Mont-
gomery and Howard counties;

Which was read the first time.
