Insert the words "or free negroes," after the word "slave,"
in the twenty-first line, 16th section

Strike out the words "at fines and penalties,*' in the first
and second lines of the 18th section.

Insert the word "and," after the word "fines," in the first
line of same section;.

Insert after the word "ordinances," in the fifth line of sec-
tion 13th the following words: "and recover the same in the
name of said corporation, before any justice of the peace of
said county, as other fines and forfeitures are now recovered;"

William A. Riddlemoser, Delegate elect from Washington
county, appeared, qualified and took his seat.

Mr. Kidd presented a petition from J. T. Veasey, Samuel
Wilson and thirty other citizens of Cecil county, favoring the
passage of an act to establish a uniform system of public
schools in the State ;

Which was referred to the committee on Education.

Mr. Spence presented a petition of one hundred and forty
citizens of Worcester county, in this State, praying that
no official action be taken to interrupt, or prevent the cutting
of a canal from Pocomoke to St. Martin's River, according to
act of Assembly 1853, chapter 80; and act of 1856, chap-
ter 254;
