Which was ordered to lie on the table ;

Mr. Kilbourn presented a petition from members of the
bar and others, praying for the passage of a law confirming
the official acts of the justice of the peace of Baltimore county,
transacting business in the city of Baltimore and authorising
such justice of the peace to continue to exercise the duties of
his office in said city ;

Which was referred to the committee on Judiciary.

Mr. Lynch, of Baltimore city, presented a petition from
John McAllister and ten other justices of the peace of Balti-
more city, and of James Everett and thirteen other constables
of said city, praying to have the justices of said city to hold
their officers for the transaction of business within the ward
for which they were elected ;

Which was referred to the committee on Judiciary.

Mr. Kilbourn presented a petition from citizens of Anne
Arundel county, against any alteration of the law now dis-
posing of the Academy fund of said county ;

Which was referred to the committee on Education.

Mr. Forrest presented a memorial of sundry citizens asking
to have the license system in relation to the inspection laws
so changed as to have the appointing power given to the Gov-
ernor.

Which was referred to the committee on Inspections.

Mr. McGonigal offered the following order:

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that Mr. Todd's
absence is caused by the illness of a member of his family ;

Which was adopted.

Mr. Rogers proposed the following message:

By the House of Delegates,

February 13th, 1858.
Gentlemen of the Senate:

We propose with your concurrence to appoint a joint com-
mittee of three members from the Senate and three from the
House of Delegates, to examine into the condition of the ori-
ginal papers and records of the late High Court of Chancery
with a view to ascertain whether said records should be com-
pleted, and with power to report by bill or otherwise, we have
appointed on the part of this House Messrs. Rogers, Kilbourn
and Hobbs ;

Which was read assented to, and sent to the Senate ;

Mr. Burgess offered the following order :

Ordered, That the bill entitled, an act to define and enlarge
the jurisdiction of the Orphans' Courts of this State, placed
by Mr. Burgess in the hands of the Chairman of the Commit-
