360             JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 12,

Which was referred to the Kent and Queen Anne's county
delegations.

Mr. Thruston presented a petition from George Deneen,
and others, citizens of Allegany county, praying for an in-
crease of the per diem of the crier of the Circuit Court for
said county ;

Which was referred to the Allegany county delegation.

Mr. Goldsborough presented a petition from William A.
Barton, and forty-four other citizens, in reference to the ap-
propriation of money to works of internal improvement on the
Eastern Shore ;

Which was referred to the committee on Ways and Means.

Mr. Thomas presented a petition from sundry citizens of
Frederick county, asking that James Spencer, a free negro of
said county, may he allowed to hold real estate, and that the
same may descend to his family after his death, unless other-
wise disposed of by his last will and testament;

Which was referred to the Frederick county delegation.

Mr. Hobbs presented a petition from Lewis Crawford and
twenty-seven other citizens of School District No. 1, Frederick
county, praying the passage of an act authorizing the sale of
the school house in said district;

Which was referred to the Frederick county delegation.

Mr. Hobbs presented a petition from sundry citizens of
Frederick county, praying the passage of an act to enlarge
the jurisdiction of justices of the peace ;

Which was referred to the committee on Judiciary.

Mr. Hobbs presented a petition from Charles Jenkins and
C. Sellman praying to have refunded certain moneys paid into
the State Treasurer in error,

Which was referred to the committee on Claims.

Mr. Rogers presented a petition from Maximus Leimgraber
and others, for an act to incorporate St. Anthony's Orphan
Asylum, in the city of Baltimore ;

Which was referred to the committee on Corporations.

Mr. Bacon presented a petition from sundry citizens of
Havre de Grace, against any further legislation relative to
fishing in the head waters of the Chesapeake Bay ;

Which was referred to the committee on Judiciary.
Mr. Duvall, offered the following order:

Ordered, That it be noted on the Journal, that the absence
of Mr. Nicholas Worthington is occasioned by his being a
member of the committee on the Maryland Penitentiary;

Which was adopted.
