320           JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 10,

We would, to facilitate the examination, note in the mar-
gin of each section, the act codified, and also furnish a list of
all the acts contained in the article.

In conclusion we would state that as our code must con-
tain all the acts up to the time of its adoption, it will be seen
we could* only complete it in the recess. We now have all
the local laws up to 1856, inclusive, codified, but during this
session a considerable number will be passed, which will
probably alter our compilation materially, and these new
laws must be codified and arranged under their proper heads.
To do this would be impossible until after the close of this
session.

If it is required by your honorable body we will report for
examination, what we have prepared in manuscript, and we
respectfully state, before such examination is made, we can
be ready to report on the rest of the code.

All of which is respectfully submitted,

Otho Scott,
Hiram McCullough.

Mr. Alexander proposed the following message:
Which was read, adopted and sent to the Senate;

House of Delegates,

February 10, 1858.
Gentlemen of the Senate :

We propose with the consent of your Honorable Body to
refer the report of Messrs. Scott and McCullough, codifiers to
a joint special committee of both Houses, and have appointed
on the part of the House Messrs. Alexander, Goldsborough and
Stirling.

By Order,

J. W. Clayton,

Chief Clerk.

The Speaker announced the special committee to whom was
referred the law regulating Pilotage, as follow:

Messrs. Goldsborough, Lynch, of Baltimore city, Baker,
Dail and Contee.

On motion the House adjourned until 7½ o'clock.
