the murder of Dr. Hadel and Mr. Graff was read the first time,
and referred to the committee on Claims.

On motion of Mr. Magruder,
The House adjourned.

TUESDAY, January 12th, 1858.

The House met. Present at the call of the roll, the following
members.

Messrs. Berry, Speaker, Morgan, Neale, Wickes, Meginnis,
Tongue, Mackubin, Kilbourne, Griffiss, Magruder, Burgess, Stone-
street, Walker, Ford, of Balt. co., Lynch, of Balt. co., Golds-
borough, Waller, Moore, Sudler, of Somerset, Tilghman, Dail,
Richardson, Grieves, Ford, of Cecil, Kidd, Belt, Wyville, Contee,
Larrimore, Sudler, of Queen Anne's, Landing, Spence, Hearn,
Thomas, Harding, Bowlus, Root, Koons, Hobbs, Hanway, Bacon,
Baker, Todd, McGonigal, Stirling, Rogers, McPherson, Smith, of
Balt. city, Kennard, Lynch, of Balt. city, Harrington, Crowley,
Forrest, Alexander, Rohrer, Summers, Gray, Schnebly, Duvall,
Worthington, Thruston, Kilgour, Barnard, Mountz, McKinstry,
Reindollar, Day, Welling and Dorsey.

The proceedings of yesterday were read.

On motion of Mr. Hobbs;

The Sergeant of Arms, Mr. Shoemaker took the oath of office.

Mr. Lynch, offered a petition of the officers and members of
the "Law Greys," a volunteer Military Corps asking compensa-
tion for services rendered to the State of Maryland, by the order
of the Governor;

Which was referred to the committee on Claims, hereafter to be
appointed.

Mr. Kilbourne, offered a petition from the citizens of Anne
Arundel county, praying for the passage of a law, to authorize
an additional school tax in that county;

Which was referred to committee on Education, hereafter to
be appointed.

Mr. Harrington, offered a petition of 175 of the citizens
of Baltimore city, asking for the restoration of the Inspection
Laws;
