The Speaker laid before the House the report of the justices
of the Orphans' Court of Prince George's county, in relation to
the school fund of that county;
Which was referred to the committee on Education.

On motion of Mr. Magruder,

Leave was granted the committee on Judiciary, hereafter to be
appointed, to introduce a bill to prevent slaves from gaining their
freedom in certain cases.

On motion of Mr. Kilgour,

Leave was granted the committee on Pensions, hereafter to be
appointed, to introduce a bill to allow a pension to Susanna Sibert,
widow of the late David Sibert, a private soldier in the revolu-
tionary war, also of the war of 1812, and appropriating a sum of
money for the payment thereof.

The Speaker presented the following report:
To the Honorable,

The Speaker of the House of Delegates:

The undersigned, respectfully reports that as clerk of the cir-
cuit court for Harford county, he paid into the Treasury of Mary-
land during the year 1856, the sum of - - - $4904 66

In the year 1857, the sum of                                      4944 63

A. L. JARRETT,

5th January, 1858.                  Late Clerk of Harford county.

Which was referred to the committee of Ways and Means, here-
after to be appointed.

The Speaker laid before the House the report of the Mayor
and City Council of Baltimore city, under chapter 266 of 1853.

Which was referred to the committee of Ways and Means,
hereafter to be appointed.

The Speaker laid before the House further documentary evi-
dence in relation to the tie vote between Messrs. Nesbitt and
Leggitt;

Which was referred to the committee on Elections, hereafter to
be appointed.

The Speaker laid before the House, the following communica-
tion:

Gentlemen:—It gives me great pleasure, in behalf of the Gov-
ernors and Visitors, and Faculty of St. John's College, to extend
