est practicable day a plan for procuring a re-survey, and the es-
tablishment of the said boundary line;

Which was adopted, and the following gentlemen appointed by
the Speaker:—Messrs. Spence, Hearn, Dail, Sudler, of Somer-
set, and Landing.

Mr. Belt offered the following order :

Ordered, That the committee of Ways and Means be instruct-
ed to inquire, and to report to this House, as soon as possible,
the farthest extent to which the several State taxes now levied,
may be abolished or reduced, without impairing the ability of
the State regularly to meet its liabilities;

Which was adopted.

On motion of Mr. Belt,

Leave was granted the committee on Colored Population,
hereafter to be appointed, to introduce a bill for the protection
and encouragement of the institution of negro slavery in this
State, by exempting a reasonable amount of slave property from
execution for debt.

On motion of Mr. McKinstry,

Leave was granted the committee on Judiciary, hereafter to be
appointed, to introduce a bill to have the parsonage property,
belonging to the Methodist Protestant Church, situated in Union
town, Carroll county, to be exempted from taxation.

On motion of Mr. Wyville,

Leave was granted the Prince George's delegation to introduce
a bill to increase the compensation of laborers on the public roads
in Prince George's county.

Mr. Thruston offered the following order:

Ordered, That the committee on Judiciary, hereafter to be ap-
pointed, be and they are hereby instructed to inquire into the
powers of the Legislature over the several Banking Corporations
in this State, with a view to compel the Banks of Maryland to
resume, at an early day, the payment of their liabilities in specie;
and that the said committee have leave to report by bill, or oth-
erwise;

Which was adopted.

The Speaker laid before the House the report of the Comp-
troller of the Treasury, for the fiscal year ended 30th of Septem-
ber, 1857;

Which was referred to the committee on Ways and Means,
hereafter to be appointed.;

And, on motion of Mr. Stirling, 5,000 copies were ordered to
be printed.
