the State in the Easton Bank of Maryland; that Trueman
Belt and Samuel Duer are duly elected Directors on the part
of the State in the Mechanics' Bank of Baltimore; that Fred-
erick D. Herbert and Thomas G. Robertson are duly elected
Directors on the part of the State in the Hagerstown Bank;
and that Rignal D. Woodward is duly elected Director on
the part of the State in the Farmers' Bank of Maryland.

On motion of Mr. Mackubin,
The House adjourned.

THURSDAY, February 4th, 1858.

The House met, and was opened with prayer by Rev. Mr.
Veitch.
Present at the call of the roll the following members:

Messrs. Berry, Speaker, Morgan, Neale, Wickes, Meginnis,
Tongue, Mackubin, Griffiss, Magruder, Stonestreet, Walker,
Allender, Ford, of Baltimore co., Lynch, of Baltimore co.,
Smith, of Baltimore county, Clarke, Goldsborough, Waller,
Moore, Sudler, of Somerset, Tilghman, Richardson, Grieves,
Davis, Ford, of Cecil, Kidd, Belt, Contee, Larrimore, Land-
ing, Thomas, Harding, Bowlus, Root, Hobbs, Hanway, Ba-
con, Baker, Stirling, Rogers, McPherson, Smith, of Baltimore
city, Kennard, Lynch, of Baltimore city, Crowley, Alexander,
Gray, Schnebly, Duvall, Worthington, Thruston, Kilgour,
Barnard, Mountz, McKinstry. Reindollar, Day, Welling and
Dorsey.

The proceedings of yesterday, were read.

Mr. Grieves presented a petition from sundry citizens of
Dorchester county, asking the enactment of a law providing
for the sale of free negroes and mulattoes, for the payment of
debts contracted by them;

Which was referred to the Dorchester county delegation.

Mr. Grieves presented a petition from Thomas Y. Canby
and others, of the city of Baltimore, asking for the passage
of a law repealing the tax of mortgages;
