The House then proceeded to the election of directors on the
part of the State in the Easton Bank of Maryland, the Mechan-
ics' Bank of Baltimore, the Hagerstown Bank, and the Farm-
ers' Bank of Maryland.

Upon calling the roll, it appeared that forty-eight members
had voted; the Speaker then sealed the ballot box and deliv-
ered it into the hands of Messrs. Magruder and Goldsborough,
tellers on the part of the House; who proceeded to the Senate
chamber to join the gentlemen who had been appointed on the
part of the Senate, for the purpose of counting the ballots.

During the absence of the tellers,
On motion of Mr. McPherson,

A call of the House was ordered, when, upon calling the roll
it appeared that thirty-one members were present.

Mr. Rogers moved that the Sergeant at Arms be sent after
the absent members,

Mr. Ford, of Baltimore county, moved as a substitute that
all further proceedings under the call of the House be dispensed
with;

Determined in the negative.

The question recurring on the motion of Mr. Rogers,

It was determined in the affirmative.

The Sergeant at Arms returned and announced that he had
notified the absent members to attend.

On motion of Mr. Ford, of Baltimore county,
All further proceedings under the call were dispensed with.

After an absence of some time, the tellers on the part of
the House, returned and reported that with the tellers on the
part of the Senate, they had counted the ballots cast, and
found that sixty-seven ballots had been cast, and that John
H. Harris had received 49 votes, Purnell Toadvine 49 votes,
R. C. Holliday 18 votes, and W. T. G. Polk 18 votes, for
Directors in the Easton Bank of Maryland; that Trueman
Belt had received 49 votes, Samuel Duer 49 votes, James H.
Luckett 18 votes, and William H. Norris 18 votes, for Direc-
tors in the Mechanics' Bank of Baltimore; that Frederick D.
Herbert had received 49 votes, Thomas G. Robertson 48 votes,
Thomas Harbine 18 votes, Charles McGill 18 votes, and
Thomas G. Herbert one vote, for Directors in the Hagerstown
Bank; that Rignal D. Woodward had received 48 votes, and
Jonathan Pinkney 18 votes, and there was one blank vote for
Director in the Farmers' Bank of Maryland.

Whereupon the Speaker declared that John H. Harris and
Purnell Toadvine are duly elected Directors on the part of
